Privacy at a glance

  • Your saved contacts stay on your device.
  • No CardBurner account is required.
  • No ads.
  • No analytics SDK.
  • You decide when to export your contacts.

This summary doesn’t replace the full policy below.

This policy describes how CardBurner (“the app”) handles information when you use it. It is written in plain language and based on the app’s actual, verified behavior in its current release.

What CardBurner does

CardBurner is a business-card scanning and contact-organization tool. You capture a business card with your device’s camera, the app reads the card’s text on-device, you review and correct the extracted details, and you save the result as a contact grouped under an event you create (for example, a conference or meeting).

Your data

Information you capture or enter — names, companies, job titles, phone numbers, email addresses, and similar business-card details — is stored locally on your device, in a local database. CardBurner does not require you to create an account, log in, or provide any credentials to use the app.

Camera & OCR

CardBurner requests camera access so you can photograph a business card. The camera is used only when you actively choose to capture a card; CardBurner does not access the camera in the background. Text extraction happens on your device. Card images are processed temporarily during capture and are not saved as part of your stored contact record — once you review and save a contact, the original card photo is not retained.

Storage & backup

Your events and contacts are stored in a local database on your device. CardBurner does not operate a cloud server and does not intentionally transmit your captured contact data to a CardBurner-operated server in the current release. CardBurner explicitly excludes its data from Android’s automatic backup and device-transfer mechanisms, so your contact and event data is not included in Android’s cloud or local backup systems through those platform features.

Export

CardBurner lets you export your own contacts as a CSV or XLSX file, scoped to an event and any active search filter, entirely under your control. Exporting creates a file that you choose what to do with (for example, saving it or sharing it through another app you select) — CardBurner itself does not send this file anywhere automatically.

Sharing & ads

CardBurner does not sell your data. CardBurner does not share your captured contact data with third parties as part of its own functionality. The app does not integrate any advertising network or analytics SDK, and the export feature only acts when you choose to use it.

Third-party components

CardBurner uses on-device text-recognition and image-processing components, including third-party components, to provide its OCR functionality. Some text-recognition functionality uses components provided by Google. These components, and the underlying Android/Google Play services they rely on, may cause the app to declare standard network-related Android permissions (internet access and network-state access) as part of their own packaging, even though CardBurner’s own code does not make network requests to transmit your contact data. We have not exhaustively verified every possible background behavior of these third-party components, so we do not claim that the app can never make any network connection under any circumstance — we will update this section if that changes or if further verification changes this understanding.

Retention & deletion

Your data is retained locally on your device for as long as you keep the app installed and the data is not deleted. You can delete individual contacts, entire events (which removes their associated contacts), or uninstall the app to remove all locally stored data at any time.

Security

Your data is stored in the app’s private, app-scoped storage on your device, which Android isolates from other apps by default. CardBurner does not implement its own additional encryption layer on top of standard Android app-storage protections in the current release.

Other

CardBurner is a professional productivity tool designed for business use and is not directed at children. CardBurner may be made available in selected countries and regions through supported app stores; availability may vary by region. We may update this policy as CardBurner’s functionality changes, and we will revise the effective date above when that happens.
